How to Adjust Your Hookdrill for a
Perfectly Straight Hole
When you hook onto metal, the drill will naturally start at a slight angle. Here are 4 quick ways to square it up and keep your hole perfectly straight:​

1. The Pre-Load Method:
Best for starting.
When you first hook onto the metal, pull the drill square with the work piece to create a "preload." This allows you to drill a full 1/4-inch deep before needing any further adjustments.

2. The Relock Method:
Adjusting mid-drill.
If you notice the drill drifting out of square while drilling, stop the motor. Lean the drill forward so the bar can slide inward, let it relock when the drill is straight, and finish the hole.

3. The Slide Method:
Adjusting on the fly.
If the drill isn't straight mid-cut, simply ease up on the trigger pressure and slide the Hook slightly farther away from you until the drill squares up, then finish drilling.

4. The Tapered Tip Method:
No adjustments needed.
The Hook is intentionally tapered. Hook onto the material using the very tip of the Hook. As you drill, push down on the Hook at the same time. This keeps the drill locked tight and perfectly square without needing to pull it out!

We build a Hook for most drills. We choose the latest hammer drill from all makes and make a Hook for that one model number. For instance, we are using the Milwaukee 2904-20 to install our Hooks on.
